Hasegawa F-8J Crusader in 1/48 sacle. Aries wheel wells, Cutting Edge cockpit and air brake update sets. Air brake set a must , but Cutting Edge no longer in business, dang! Kit decals except national ensignia.

This one is in a clean state as befitting a CAG bird. I like these kits.

Hasegawa 1/48 scale F-8E Crusader. Cutting Edge cockpit, air brake and Aries well wheels added. Kit decal except national ensignia.

Revell/Germany 1/48 scale f/A-18F super Hornet. Built straight from the box, did,t correct the narrow spine behind cockpit or correct detail in cockpit. Was fun to build and I like it.
Kit decals were also used.

Hasegawa 1/48 scale F-4J Phantom II. Up grade kit bought 20 years ago, started building about 10 years ago! Just needed new decals.
Lots of details added, resin seats, wings folded and flaps lowered.

Tamyia 1/48 scale P-51D Mustang. "Sweet 'n Lowdown"
I like this model, probable the best natural metal finish I done to date.
True Details resin cockpit, Aero Master decals. Alclad and Model Master paints.

The 1/48 scale ICM P-51D Mustang.
This kit is a knock-off of the Tamiya kit with minor changes to get around the copy right laws. The plastic is soft and because of this both upper and lower wings and the left fuselage were warped. The fuselage took a lot of work to get straight. The plastic also had a very strange characteristic in that the surface would peel off, sort of like plywood coming apart when it gets wet. A first for me. Super glue was used to set the "laminate" back and fill in any holes in the surface. this created problems in getting a super smooth finish for the aluminum paint. The True Details resin cockpit was added to the kit.
I have always wanted a model with the markings of "Big Beautiful Doll" and this one seem to be the one. The model was painted in a combination of Alclad and Model Master paints. The decals are a mixture of several sheets. Superscale provided the fuselage code letters, except one "I" which I had to make from red and black scraps because one was ruined some time in the past ( I had this sheet for about 15 years). Aero Master provided the national insignia, and the bulk of the personal markings. The checks on the nose are from two sheets from the old Monogram P-51 kit simply because they were the ONLY accurate one the market, look at the photo's of the real bird and you will see that the other decal sheets are wrong in arrangement and size. Because they were made to fit the Monogram kit with its inaccurate wide nose , I first painted the nose white and the thin red trim, then cut the individual black checks from the decal sheet and applied them one at a time to the model, this way I was able to adjust them to fit the ICM nose. The checks on the wig tips were painted on.
This one was a fight all the way, but I'm happy with the results.
